Winter 2011/2012

Meet your Next Western 1 Regional Director Mona Toncheff!

Montana will be replaced by Arizona this spring! Mona Toncheff () will be your new leader. What does this mean for Mona? It means she is your contact for leadership resources. Call her if you need a NCSM leader to come speak at your state conference. Email her if you would like information and handouts and goodies for state conferences to advertise our services for math specialists and math leaders. Mona takes the best interests of our proud western states to the national organization and helps us to direct the leaders in mathematics education. Send Mona a western welcome.

Where do you want to be in April of 2012? You want to be in Philadelphia. The Annual NCSM and the Annual NCTM Meeting and Exposition promise to be the best ever. Our keynote speaker Freeman A. Hrabrowski, III has wowed people with his support on 60 minutes for STEM education. This quick video should convince you!

NCSM is a volunteer organization. NCSM needs you! We rely on volunteers to write articles, review the journal, man the booth at conferences, serve on committees, help develop ideas and mold mathematics education. If you would like to be more involved, volunteer! We need you. You can volunteer with Mona or myself - just send us an email.

Thanks for your support over the last 3 years. My term as a director finishes this spring. Thanks for letting me serve you. I have learned much from the wonderful people on the NCSM board. A special thanks goes to the members in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona for allowing me to represent you in mathematics education leadership. It has been an honor.

Richard Seitz
