News from the Southern 2 Region

We are counting the days in Southern Region 2 to the NCSM Annual Conference in New Orleans, April 7-9, 2014. We look forward to welcoming all our NCSM friends and colleagues to our region for this conference. This year's program is exciting and we will all learn and grow as we enjoy historic charms of this great city. Please plan to attend the Southern Region 2 Caucus that will be held during the NCSM meeting.

The NCSM leadership academy is coming to Southern Region 2 in the summer of 2014. The dates for the academy are June 30 through July 2, 2014. The location will be in North Little Rock, AR. The site of this meeting is just across the Arkansas River from River Market area of Little Rock and is very close to the Clinton Presidential Library. I hope you will mark your calendar today and plan to attend the academy this summer. The title this year is: "Mathematics Leadership at Work: Deepening Formative Assessment Knowledge to Prepare for Next Generation Summative Assessments".

The Texas Association of Supervisors of Mathematics (TASM) had a great meeting this spring in Austin, TX on February 20 and 21. There were about 300 members participating in this professional development session and business meeting. TASM will be working with the Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics to host the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching this summer, July 21-23. This year CAMT will be held in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Oklahoma Council of Teachers of Mathematics is planning their annual summer conference for June 13, 2014. This year the meeting will be held at Oklahoma State University in Tulsa.

Planning for fall conferences is underway in Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas. The Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics has a meeting planned in Shreveport on October 20-22. The Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics is working on plans for the annual Arkansas Curriculum Conference in Little Rock, scheduled for November 6 and 7. The Arkansas Association of Mathematics Leaders will host a meeting in conjunction with the ACC conference on November 5 and 6. The Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics has announced the dates for their Fall Forum will be October 23 and 24. The theme and location for this event will be announced later. The Tennessee Mathematics Teachers Association has announced their fall meeting will be held on September 26 and 27, 2014.
