Spring 2014

Congratulations on a job well done for the first half of the year. We are working our way to the finish line of another successful year in education. If you are like me, the rest of the year is spent "running the marathon" with state assessments, end of the year celebrations, promotions and graduations, and intense deadlines. States are bracing for the changes in the upcoming assessments with field testing this spring. Regardless which assessment your state is choosing, encourage your team to review the two sample online assessments (PARCC online assessment or Smarter Balanced) to engage with the new interactions of the dynamic assessments.

Upcoming Annual Conferences: Do you have plans to attend the 46th NCSM Annual Conference this year? The annual conference is in New Orleans, LA. April 7-9, and the theme is, "Jazzed Up Mathematics Leadership: Building Systems to Trumpet Achievement". This will be an engaging conference with a packed program with fabulous speakers. This is a great opportunity to enlarge your network of resources and tools.

Leadership Academies: Plans are also underway for the summer Leadership Conferences. Be sure to check the calendar below this message for exact locations and dates. These conferences have been extremely helpful to math leaders as we prepare for implementation of the CCSSM and aiming Beyond the Core. These conferences are also fabulous opportunities to network with other math leaders either in your area or via technology to share ideas and bounce questions off each other.
