Fall 2014

After a wonderful summer of opportunities to recharge our batteries, we are off and running with the start of another school year. Welcome back! The 2014-2015 school year promises to be both challenging and rewarding as many of us are working hard to implement mathematics instruction in meaningful ways.

We are excited about the professional development opportunities that will be taking place in our region this fall and winter. One of three fall NCSM Leadership Seminars will be in Southern Region 1. This event will be held in Richmond, Virginia on November 12, 2014. The title for the seminars this fall is "It's TIME: Using Imperatives to Support and Motivate Leaders in Mathematics Education". These seminars will build upon the NCSM publication released in April 2014, "It's TIME: Themes and Imperatives for Mathematics Education". Please plan on taking advantage of this opportunity. This event will be held in conjunction with the NCTM Regional Conference that will take place in Richmond on November 12-14, 2014. Register today!

Several of our Southern Region 1 states are also planning fall and/or winter conferences for 2014. The 55th Annual Georgia Mathematics Conference is planned for October 15-17, 2014 by the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The Florida Association of Mathematics Supervisors are meeting October 20-22, 2014 and the FCTM 62nd Annual Conference is planned for October 23-25, 2014 by the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The Virginia Council for Mathematics Supervision is meeting October 23-25, 2014.

Our Southern Region 1 mathematics education leadership is dedicated and continues to work tirelessly to provide support and resources for the mathematics education community. Multiple opportunities to continue to grow and learn professionally continue to abound in our region.
