News from the Eastern 1 Region

Greetings to all NCSM members from Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont!
It has been one of the greatest professional experiences of my career to represent Eastern Region 1 on the NCSM board. I want to thank all of the NCSM members I have met for making my visits to state conferences and activities so memorable and enjoyable. It has been an honor and privilege to represent the Eastern 1 Region for the past three years. I know your next regional director, Cathy Boutin, will do a great job!
One of my personal goals was to increase the number of affiliate organizations of NCSM and I’m proud to say that the Eastern Region has an impressive number of affiliate organizations! I am grateful for all of the work of the affiliate chairs for their tireless commitment to connect mathematics organizations with NCSM. Cheryl Avalos kicked off the creation of NCSM affiliates and she was followed by Carol Matsumoto and now, Nanci Smith. All three have done a phenomenal job! I know that the affiliates in E1 are also grateful for the volunteer service of these three individuals and the affiliate program continues to grow. I’ve always thought of NCSM as the place where leaders go to learn and what better way to connect leaders of state and local mathematics organizations than via affiliation with NCSM.

51st Annual NCSM Conference
April 1-3, 2019
San Diego, CA
The NCSM Annual Conference, Making Waves with Effective Math Leadership, will be held in San Diego at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina Hotel from April 1-3, 2019. There is still time to register online. Onsite registration beginning March 31 (online registration will be closed). Be sure to sign up to volunteer as well. It is a wonderful way to network with colleagues and speakers and feel the energy of a national conference!
NCSM Caucus at the Annual Conference in San Diego
Do plan to attend the Eastern Region 1 Caucus on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, from 3:30 to 4:15 pm. In Pacific 17 at the conference hotel. Be sure to join us and welcome Cathy Boutin as your new Regional Director. The caucus will also give you the opportunity to meet others from the Eastern 1 region, receive information from NCSM, and give input to your organization!
Do make plans not only to join us, but to help make the conference a success. Volunteer at the 2019 NCSM Conference in San Diego! Receive a "Making Waves through Effective Mathematics Leadership" T-shirt for your service.
