Greetings Mathematics Education Leadership Colleagues!
I hope this finds you enjoying a productive new school year! As I have been getting my feet wet in the role of Regional Director for Southern 2, I have been thinking about system level change. Change is not new to educators, but meaningful and lasting change is difficult. It takes a coordinated effort from every level of the system. NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education offers many types of support for leaders working to make change for their students and educators!
We have two upcoming leadership seminars that can help you get jump started. These seminars will focus on supporting mathematics leaders to become agents of change and on improving student achievement through the framework for leadership in mathematics instruction and coaching. Join us in Tennessee or in Iowa:
- Nashville, TN: October 2, 2019, Register by September 25, 2019
- Des Moines, Iowa: November 18, 2019, Register by November 11, 2019
We also have two new publications that help school leaders and coaches think about implement change. Newsletter, e-News, e-blast, Journal? What’s the difference?
NCSM makes a great effort to keep in touch with its members through a variety of formats and delivery systems, and there is often confusion among them. Take a look at what we offer.
The NCSM Newsletter is a quarterly, electronic communication sent to members. It features articles relevant to our mission; past issues are archived on the website. Members can download or view the PDF version of the newsletter or view it in our online flipbook reader. Know that a new name for this publication may be on the horizon!
e-News is a monthly, electronic bulletin featuring timely messages and current, up-to-date NCSM news. It is available by subscription to members and nonmembers alike. Past issues are archived on the website. Make sure we have a good email address for you! Get Connected! Sign up for eNews.
E-blasts are sent as needed to relate important information to members. These focused announcements relate topics, issues and/or reminders are timely and focused.

The NCSM Journal of Mathematics Education Leadership
The Journal is published twice yearly. Print copies are mailed to members only; the journal is not available through subscription. Issues may be viewed on or downloaded from the website, and past issues are archived on the website. The journal addresses issues of leadership in mathematics education and reflecting a broad spectrum of formal and informal leadership at all levels.
A big thanks to our current Regional Team Leaders! These dedicated folks are working in your state to support math ed leaders. Please feel free to contact them (or me!) if there’s a way we might be helpful to you!
Do you know some great leaders? We know you do!
Do you know someone (maybe you?) who would like to be more involved with NCSM? Have them talk to me about serving as a regional team leader!
