Addressing historical failures and mitigating future failures in mathematics education can only be accomplished through developing and supporting mathematics teachers and leaders at all levels. I believe that quantitative literacy is a social justice issue and that individuals with expertise in mathematics education have an obligation to contribute to the field to improve equity and access to high-quality, research-based educational opportunities for all students.
Like many passionate educators, I currently serve in multiple roles. I am the lead for K-12 Mathematics at the State of Nevada, Department of Education, the Assistant Director of the Nevada Mathematics and Technology Program at the University of Nevada, Reno, and adjunct faculty for several local colleges. Through these roles I get the best of all worlds, supporting preservice and in-service teachers, teacher leaders, and students.
I am a teacher, a teacher leader, a researcher, an author, a policy maker, and a mom of a toddler whose numeracy skills are growing each day. I look forward to learning with you!
