In line with that mission, NCSM is offering a transformative professional learning event dedicated to equipping educators with the tools and strategies they need to support traditionally underserved learners in mathematics.

Karen Karp

Karen Karp
Karen Karp is a mathematics educator who focuses on the intersection of mathematics education and special education. She is a former professor at Johns Hopkins University and a former distinguished teaching professor of elementary mathematics education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky where she is professor emerita. She is the author or co-author of numerous book chapters, articles, and books, including the recent U.S. Department of Education Institute of Science’s What Works Clearinghouse Practice Guide on Assisting Students Struggling with Mathematics: Intervention in the Elementary Grades, and other titles such as Strengths-based Teaching and Learning in Mathematics: 5 Teaching Turnarounds for Grades K-6, The Math Pact: Achieving Instructional Coherence within and Across Grades, and Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally. She is also on the author panel of the SAVVAS enVision Series for grades K-5.

Dr. Karp is a former member of the board of directors of NCTM and a former president of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. In 2020, she was selected for the NCTM Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service to Mathematics Education. This past summer she represented the United States as the Chair of Topic Study Group on Teaching Mathematics to Students with Special Needs at the International Congress on Mathematical Education in Australia. She holds teaching/administrative certifications in elementary education, secondary mathematics, K-12 special education, and K-12 educational administration.

Gina Rivera

Gina Rivera

Georgina Rivera is a passionate math educator, coach, author, and presenter focused on equity, collective teacher efficacy, culturally relevant pedagogy, and teacher leadership. She works with educators and leaders to build collaborative teams and ensure all students receive high-quality mathematics instruction. She currently serves as an school administrator for West Hartford Public Schools. Prior to this position, she was a building level administrator in Bristol Public Schools, a math coach and elementary STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) supervisor; she began her career as a middle school math teacher. Georgina serves on various local and national boards focused on math education and leadership and has previously served as the NCSM vice president. She is a presenter at the local and national level on best practices in mathematics teaching and learning, professional learning communities, mathematics coaching, leadership, culturally relevant practices and equitable math teaching practices.

India White

India White
Dr. India White is a TEDx speaker, national educational consultant, author of 60+ books, and co-author for Savvas Learning Company. India is a 3-time graduate of the University of Florida, majoring in math, educational leadership and educational leadership and administration.White has held positions as a math teacher, math coach, Assistant Principal, and a National Ed Consultant. India’s mission is to find out how to use equitable practices while developing grit in students to bridge the achievement gap. Dr. White has presented on Equity and Culture at the 2023 MACUL Conference in Michigan, Equitable Math Practices at the 2025 Hawaii International Education Conference, The Power of Grit at the 2024 NCTM Annual Conference, and on Equity at the 2024 NCSM Virtual Conference.

She has presented at the 2023 FCTM Annual Math Conference and gave a keynote at the 2023 CMC-South Math conference for teachers in Palm Springs, California. India is a member of the National School Board Association, the Superintendent’s Association, National Alliance of Black School Educators, Black Women in Education, Benjamin Banneker Association, and National Council of Supervisors in Mathematics and National Council of Teachers in Mathematics. As a member of these organizations, India has been privileged to work with various leaders in legislation, department of education and throughout various organizations that speak to equity, diversity and inclusion.

She currently serves as the Equity and Access Chair for the Florida Council of Teachers in Mathematics, where she will be presenting on equity in math this summer and working with leaders in Florida to help serve all learners. India is spoke for CMC Central in California in March 2024 and was a Keynote Speaker at the Wisconsin Math Council’s Math Conference in May 2024 and a featured speaker for CAMT in July 2024. India trained Minnesota School Districts and California School Districts in Back to School Grit Launches to bridge the gap. Jessica Costa

Jessica
Dr. Jessica Costa has worked for over 2 decades teaching students a love of language and learning or designing and facilitating professional learning and coaching nationally and internationally. She brings a wealth of knowledge from her experiences as a National Board Certificated teacher; a leader at the state, district, and school-wide levels, a data coach, and from her research focused on school leadership preparation. Her passion for mutlilingual learners started with her father’s stories of his experience as a multilingual immigrant starting school in the United States as a teenager. Jessica gets excited for each training, meeting, or even the smallest of opportunities to connect and partner with educators and leaders to support quality instruction within responsive and affirming learning environments for multilingual learners.
