Summer 2018
Greetings from Eastern Region 2!
Happy summer!
What a wonderful birthday party for NCSM was held at the 50th Annual Conference in Washington DC! Thanks to the many people from all over the country who donated student artwork to add spendor to the events! Kudos to Eastern Region 2 for really stepping up for this – so many schools from our region participated in this fun effort. Everyone was so impressed by the talent and creativity of the students.
Our regional caucus was informative and Eastern Region 2 was well represented! Thanks to our amazing Regional Team Leaders for facilitating the discussions with their respective states during the caucus. Please feel free to reach out to me or your Regional Team Leader to get involved with NCSM or if you need information on the upcoming events in our region.

And for summer -consider professional learning with NCSM! This year’s Summer Leadership Academy is focused on deepening our understanding of coaching. Building Mathematics Leadership: Coaching will be held at the Doubletree by Hilton, Denver Tech Center, in Greenwood Village, Colorado, from July 30 to August 1, 2018.
Summer is also the perfect time to relax and read! Here are a few suggestions that might get you thinking about your list! On my professional reading list is The Art of Coaching by Elena Agular, The Speed of Trust by Steven Covey, and Reaching and Teaching Students in Poverty by Paul Gorski. Here are a few recommendations for vacation reading: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, and an all time favorite, The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein (if you are a dog person, this is a MUST read!)
Enjoy a wonderful summer and take time for YOU!
