News from the Southern 1 Region
Bernard E. Frost, Southern 1 Regional Director
Winter 2018/2019
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, "If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." As mathematics leaders, we have moments and situations that make it hard to stay focus on our true purpose and passion in education; nevertheless, we know what we have to do to continue moving mathematics education forward. No matter how difficult the task or situation may be, I encourage you to continue supporting, sustaining, and inspiring high quality mathematics teaching and learning every day for each and every learner.
Meaningful and ongoing professional learning help us in persevering and leading more effectively. Many excellent opportunities for professional learning were offered in the Southern I Region this past fall. I hope you were able to participate in some of them. I want to thank all of the NCSM members I have met at the SCCTM Fall conference. Please let me know the events, dates, and locations of these opportunities in your states. I can make sure they are posted on the NCSM web site.
There are still more opportunities for professional learning in Southern Region I during the spring of 2019. Some of them are:
- Georgia Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (GCSM) Winter Conference January 30-February 1, 2019 Jekyll Island Club, Jekyll Island, GA
- Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (VCTM) Annual Conference March 8-9, 2019 at Longwood University
- North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) Spring Leadership Seminar March 24, 2019 at the Red Lion Hotel (formerly the Radisson) in High Point, NC
Please let me know if I can help you in any way as your NCSM Regional Director. Take advantage of the opportunities for professional learning in your state or neighboring states in the spring. I hope to see some of you April 1-3, 2019 at the NCSM Annual Conference, Making Waves with Effective
Math Leadership, in San Diego. Don’t miss this exciting event! Be sure to sign up to volunteer as
well. It is a wonderful way to network with colleagues and speakers and
feel the energy of a national conference!
Get involved, Stay Connected, & Continue Moving Forward!
