Theme: On Track for Student Success: Mathematics Leaders Making a Difference

The Year of Leadership:

  • Published the leadership position paper, “Improving Student Achievement in Mathematics by Systematically Integrating Effective Technology”.
  • Distributed a joint public statement of NCTM, NCSM, ASSM and AMTE, “Mathematics Education Organizations Unite to Support the Implementation of the Common Core State Standards”.
  • Distributed a joint position paper of AMTE, ASSM, NCSM and NCTM, “The Role of Elementary Mathematics Specialists in the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics”.
  • Instituted a joint session with at the annual conference with the NCTM Research Pre-Session.
  • Launched NCSM “eNEWS”.
  • Entered into partnership with the “Elementary Mathematics Specialist and Teacher Leaders Project (ems&tl)”.
  • Entered into partnership with the “Common Core State Standards Curriculum Analysis Tool Project” with the University of Louisville Kentucky.
  • Entered into partnership with the “Situations Project” at Penn State University and University of Georgia. NCSM will assist in creating a facilitator’s guide for use with the Situations.
  • Presented the 1st NCSM Webinar “Getting Started with the Common Core State Standards: First Step for Mathematics Leaders”.
  • Presented the 2nd NCSM Webinar “Deeper Dive Into the Common Core State Standards: Leading With the Mathematical Practices”.
  • Held the 14th NCSM Leadership Academy “PRIME Leadership: Stomping on the Gap!” (June 15-18, 2010 at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, Aurora, IL; June 22-25, 2010 at the Harris County Conference Center, Houston, TX; and August 16-19, 2010 at Stuyvesant High School, New York, NY).
